The Reality: Youth Homelessness In Canada

Did you know that over 118, 000 people experienced homelessness in Canada in 2023?

And more than 26,000 of them are youth between the ages of 13-24. That's over 20% of our entire homeless population -- kids who've been abused, abandoned, and failed by the very systems meant to protect them.

In Calgary alone, a 2022 survey recorded 445 homeless youth, both sheltered and unsheltered. But we know the real number is far higher. Many are hidden -- couch- surfing, sleeping in cars, squatting in stairwells, or just trying to survive without being seen.

These aren't statistics. They're children. And if we're being honest... it could just as easily be out own.

Imagine your son or daughter curled on a shelter floor with no bed, no blanket, and no one to call. That's the daily reality for far too many youth right now here in our city.
